Popular Muslim Names

Peace!

Muslims usually choose names that have good and righteous meanings, and are commonly named after people of significant standing during, or shortly after the time of Prophet Muhammed.

Names can also be influenced by the country the person is from and what language they speak.

Here is a short list of some of the popular names:

Muhammed
Abdallah (and other names that start with Abd/Abdul - as this means "slave of...")
Ali
Hassan
Ahmed

Fatima
Mariam
Ayesha
Khadijah

Aliya

I went about choosing a name for my daughter by finding one that had a nice meaning.... "Higher" spiritually, and possibly in height! she was a long baby when born, more so than my son, so I thought that it was quite suitable.

Though, the name with this meaning also was a little complicated in spelling, so for ease I decided to spell the name as simple as possible with out changing its actual meaning. Because the name is originally in Arabic, changing the letters/pronounciation can sometimes change the meaning, so BEWARE!

Thankfully I love my daughters name, and its meaning, and people don't seem to have much trouble in pronouncing or spelling it!

Peace!
Lotty

The Thomas phenomenon

Seriously? Why Thomas....

Everywhere I go that there is a group of children, some one is bound to have a son called Thomas.

The name means "Twin" .... I doubt all these Thomas' are twins... and I doubt that the parents thought that the name was unique... so why?

Perhaps I just like a name with a ounce of originality?

At The Movies

I haven't researched too much but I can well imagine that after a popular film hits the box office there is a trend towards names of the characters in that film.

So, today I am at the movies (my first in a while!) to see avatar in 3D. I haven't seen it yet, but I can imagine that we well may see a few "Pandora's" or "Jake's" even a "Sully" or two.. What about "Neytiri"?? I like the latter, has a nice sound to it!

Welcome Jazmeena

A friend of mine just had a baby Girl. Welcome to the world Jazmeena!

I have yet to meet the little one, as I am an 8 hour drive away.... so have yet to drill the new mummy on the gorgeous name.

I suspect, from first glance that it is a name relating to "Jasmine - from the flower of the same name"

Beautiful flower, for a beautiful baby girl.

Peace!

Random names in the night

There are some strange names out there. What I find really strange are names that people have made from a bit of their name and a bit of there partners name.... Eg .... Danda - a bit of Danny and a bit of Amanda !?!?

Poor child! Maybe I'm just old fashioned.... Eehhh...bemybabyname.com
